What are Paper Mills?

The industrial-scale production of fraudulent research for profit.

Paper mills are unethical commercial entities that manufacture and sell manuscripts to researchers who need publications for career advancement, degree requirements, or funding. These papers often appear legitimate but are built on fabricated data or plagiarized content.

How They Operate

  • Template Fabrication: Using AI to generate thousands of variations of a single study.
  • Authorship Sales: Selling "slots" on a paper for hundreds or thousands of dollars.
  • Manipulated Review: Suggesting "fake" peer reviewers controlled by the mill.

ASAI's Defense

The Technical Knowledge Audit (TKA) is designed specifically to kill paper mills. While a mill can sell a name on a paper, it cannot sell the knowledge required to defend the paper's methodology during our AI-led cross-examination.
